Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
¼ cup neutral oil (like canola)
¾ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup light brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
¾ cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
¼ cup buttermilk
1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (mix of mini and regular)
Optional: coarse sugar for topping
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line or grease a muffin tin.
In one bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In another bowl, whisk melted butter, oil, sugars, eggs, vanilla, sour cream, and buttermilk until smooth.
Gently fold dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
Stir in chocolate chips. Optionally, sprinkle coarse sugar on top.
Fill muffin cups about ¾ full. Let the batter rest for 30 minutes for better texture.
Bake at 425°F for 5–7 minutes, then reduce to 350°F and bake for 10–12 more minutes.
Cool for 5 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack. Serve warm or store airtight.
Notes
– Toss chocolate chips in flour before mixing to prevent sinking.
– Resting the batter helps muffins rise taller and stay moist.
– Use a mix of mini and regular chips for perfect distribution.
